Dr. J.Patrick Abulencia is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Manhattan College.  Dr. Abulencia received his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Manhattan College, and his Ph.D. in chemical and biomolecular engineering from Johns Hopkins University.  His graduate research examined the role of shear stress in blood thrombus formation as well as the gene regulation of chondrocytes.  Dr. Abulencia’s post graduate work was done at the School of Veterinary Medicine Department of Small Animal Surgery at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he investigated tissue engineering strategies of mesenchymal stem cells in repairing both bone and cartilage.  Dr. Abulencia has been faculty at Manhattan College for 15 years, and his current research spans a broad range that includes engineering pedagogy and urban sustainability.

Outside of academia, Dr. Abulencia is a long time supporter of the New York Mets, Giants, and Rangers. He also enjoys travelling, and plays several musical instruments. Dr. Abulencia grew up in the East Elmhurst section of Queens, New York, and is an Eagle Scout (link).
